Rachel McAdams’ Sophisticated Street Style

fe56d80ba4095d4a Rachel McAdams’ Sophisticated Street StyleRachel McAdams was in London last week on her press tour for her latest movie The Vow.  Although this film isn’t by writer Nicholas Sparks of The Notebook fame, it seems to have the same weepy romantic overtones. According to IMDb it’s about “A car accident puts Paige (McAdams) in a coma, and when she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo (Channing Tatum) works to win her heart again.” So be prepared with your tissue stash when you go to see the movie.

For her BBC radio interview, Rachel was looking sharp and sophisticated in a LBD from the Autumn 2012 The Lover collection. It included an a-line skirt with pleats and, my favorite dress detail, a leather peter pan collar.

Over her dress she wore a black wool coat from The Rows Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Rachel looked so chic in it – I was experiencing envy pains. As she left the BBC office she left her coat open to give us a peek at her black mini dress and subsequently her gorgeous gams.

The whole outfit was completed with her pale pink “Grace” pumps by Brian Atwood, which featured black ankle straps and black ruffled fabric down the back.

On top of having delicious street style, she also has a talented, handsome, funny boyfriend: Michael Sheen. Did anyone catch him on 30 Rock as Wesley Snipes (no, not that one) where he and Liz Lemon decide to be each other’s “settling soulmate”?

Felicity Jones in Valentino at the Golden Globe After Party

The beautiful Brit actress arrived at the 13th Annual Warner Bros. and InStyle Golden Globe After Party wearing an elegant white Valentino gown from the Pre-Fall 2012 collection.

Her hair was in a casual perfectly mussed updo and her makeup understated, yet still complementing her gowns 60’s vibe by featuring wonderfully long and lush upper lashes.

95ce5d57fb48594f Felicity Jones in Valentino at the Golden Globe After PartyFelicity continued the easy flow of her look with a simple black clutch. Her shoes were a question mark as they kept hidden beneath her gown’s floor length hem. If I were her I’d wear the comfiest shoes available (with the exception of Crocs) since no one would be the wiser.

She looks so regal, but I would like to have seen what a shorter hemline could do – as it’s runway counterpart in black. With the gorgeous detailed work on her torso, the rest of the gown seems a tad too expansive.

288c01617ac7c9a1 Felicity Jones in Valentino at the Golden Globe After PartyI love Felicity in period films, but I hope she gets the chance to be a breakout star in other film genres like her costar in Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, Carey Mulligan. Carey went on the fast track from Kitty in Pride and Prejudice and Ada in Bleakhouse to Drive with Ryan Gosling and Shame with Michael Fassbender.

Golden Globes 2012: Beige Edition

As with any celebrity award event you have the drop dead beautifully dressed and the unfortunately dressed. This is list of the latter from this year’s Golden Globe Awards, and I blame the nude hue or what some call the “non-color” for washing out these otherwise gorgeous celebrities. It also brings back memories from back in the day when crayolas came with a “flesh” colored crayon, it was my most loathed color (it reminds me of band-aids).

Maybe it’s a new trend for celebrities to try to detract attention from themselves and this neutral color helps them disappear into the background. Sadly, this trend seemed to attach itself to some favored celebrities.

Heidi Klum, although, the necklace helps break up the boring expanse of beige:

If you want to see how vivacious a brilliant color can add, just take a look at the exquisite Dame Helen Mirren in royal blue:

Elizabeth Olsen is Daring in a Proenza Schouler Spring 2012 Dress

At the 37th Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards on the 11th, Elizabeth Olsen (the new “it girl”) looked fresh and lovely in a floral Proenza Schouler Spring 2012 dress. I love it when celebrities edge away from “safe” fashion choices and turn up in something utterly unexpected.

6fc3169d9065968b Elizabeth Olsen is Daring in a Proenza Schouler Spring 2012 DressThe bold orange flowers on her skirt helped add some cheeriness to the winter blahs. The keyhole opening in her top brought some sultry glamour to her look without going overboard.

Her hair and makeup was picture perfect. Just the right amount of smoky eye makeup, which brought out her gorgeous eyes, and a demure lipstick shade helped balance out the boldness of her dress. A loose side braid added a bohemian chic (something her twin sisters are experts in) vibe to her sexy outfit.

3f2ae8a46245da34 Elizabeth Olsen is Daring in a Proenza Schouler Spring 2012 DressElizabeth Olsen has been receiving rave reviews for her acting in the 2011 film Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene. In the film her character struggles to form a new life after escaping from a cult. After being on many of the “best of 2011” lists, I can’t wait to see the film myself.

Ashley Greene in DKNY Lace & Leather

bab979a9e8031ad1 Ashley Greene in DKNY Lace & LeatherOn Wednesday at the 2012 People’s Choice Award, Ashley Greene again wore another contradictions dress. Although I was onboard with her last black and white look, this time the 2 extreme opposites that comprised her dress failed to make a favorable impression. She wore a black leather and lace custom-made DKNY (of which she’s the latest face of) dress and Brian Atwood shoes. Her custom made dress might be inspired by a DKNY Pre-Fall dress with a lace top and a leather skirt.

bc4012ac3beb09fa Ashley Greene in DKNY Lace & LeatherMaybe because she took a break from attending the numerous global Twilight premieres she thought it would be okay to wear something a little more goth/vampire-like without having to worrying about being to obvious. To me it looks a little more goth than vampire-like (however, anyone who saw South Park’s “Ungroundable” knows Goths and vampires are two entirely different cliques, per se).

24283169dd5e3cab1 Ashley Greene in DKNY Lace & LeatherA black flowery sheer lace covered her décolletage, shoulders, neck, and 2/3rds of her arm. The leather part looked like an extremely form fitting strapless dress with several inches of a circle skirt hemline. I think the dress clung to her a little too much like a second skin, so much so that you can spot the outline of her belly button and underwear (being one of the few Hollywood actresses who actually wear underwear – thanks Ashley!) through the leather.

5c45b94316332cc1 Ashley Greene in DKNY Lace & LeatherThe girly circle skirt and the fact that the leather wasn’t patent made the dress seem less S&Mish. After catching the 1st season of American Horror Story, I might still be traumatized by the Rubber Gimp suit, thus making me biased against any type of black skin tight outfits. The dress also felt like it was a little off, maybe missing something – a belt? A different color for her pumps? It’s a difficult look to pull off – I’m not sure if even Rooney Mara, who loves her edgy black gowns, could wear it flatteringly.

Ashley’s leather and lace may have missed the mark, but her hair and makeup were flawless. Her soft cascading waves and subtle and simple makeup softened her tough, edgy leather dress and added to the romantic qualities of the lace. One has to commend her for not playing it safe and taking risks.
