Air Jordan, known colloquially as Air Jordans, Jordans, Js, or “MJs” are a brand of shoes produced by Nike, Inc which was designed for and endorsed by legendary professional basketball player, Michael Jordan. The Air Jordan line is created by Jordan Brand, a sub-division of Nike. Since its first release in 1984, there have been new designs of the shoe released each year, even after Jordan retired from basketball.
Jordan is a retired professional basketball player and active businessman. His biography on the National Basketball Association (NBA) website states, “By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.”Jordan was one of the most effectively marketed athletes of his generation, and was instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s. He is currently a part-owner and Managing Member of Basketball Operations of the Charlotte Bobcats in North Carolina. He has been a major spokesman for such brands as Nike, Coca-Cola, Chevrolet, Gatorade, McDonald’s, Ball Park Franks, Rayovac, Wheaties, Hanes, and MCI.
