Before entering the design business, Justine Bateman’s hobbies were pottery and knitting. It was her proficiency at knitting that resulted in her opening Justine Bateman Designs.
Bateman played the role of superficial Mallory Keaton on the television sitcom Family Ties from 1982 to 1989. She revealed to TV Guide in its November 9, 1996, issue that she had struggled with anorexia, bulimia, and compulsive overeating while making Family Ties. Bateman has been married to Mark Fluent since 2001, and has two children. In 2000, she founded her own fashion design company and serves on the National Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild.
