Stussy clothing was started as a surf brand inspired by reggae musicians, skaters, hip hop, and DJs. Over time, it grew into more than just a surf brand, but became a general “streetwear” brand, which in turn helped propel Stussy into an international label. The company now makes shirts, pants, caps, shorts, jackets and so on to accessories, bags, shoe collaborations and a women’s line.
In 1980, Shawn Stussy was a surfboard shaper around Laguna Beach, California. In addition, he sold T-shirts with his distinctive drawn signature. Stussy clothing was started as a surf brand inspired by reggae musicians, skaters, hip hop, and DJs. Over time, it grew into more than just a surf brand, but became a general “streetwear” brand, which in turn helped propel Stussy into an international label. The company now makes shirts, pants, caps, shorts, jackets and so on to accessories, bags, shoe collaborations and a women’s line. For the past ten years Stussy has been designed by Nick Bower, and Paul Mittleman.
