Since giving birth to adorable son, Egypt, in October 2010, we haven’t seen much of Alicia Keys on the red carpet – or in public at all. And even though we missed her seriously fierce and fabulous red carpet style, we can’t say we blame the R&B diva for taking some time off to focus on her new little family with husband Swizz Beatz. Fortunately for us, it looks like she’s ready to get back in the game, because she reportedly signed a mega development deal with Disney, and is beginning to make her way back into the public eye. In fact, she performed hosting (and entertainment) duties on stage at this year’s Keep a Child Alive Black Ball, held at London’s Roundhouse on Wednesday, June 15th. Alicia has always been supportive of causes that bring awareness to HIV/AIDS, so we weren’t surprised to see her at the event – which raised funds to support children throughout Africa and India who have been affected by the deadly virus.
Alicia wore a custom designed Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown, and accessorized with Givenchy pieces, as well. Since the design house is known for its bold and outrageous silhouettes, we think it’s a perfect fit for the “Fallen” singer, who once sported cornrows and sports bras at the piano.
Alicia’s stunning gown features a strapless neckline, a nude back panel and hand-sewn ostrich feathers cascading down the substantial train. There are a lot of visual details in this look, but the solid black color keeps it completely chic instead of crazy. She paired her couture frock with a gold studded belt, suede sandals and a black satin clutch, all by Givenchy – as well as gorgeous Chaumet jewelry.
Even if you don’t have any black-tie galas on your social calendar this month, you can still take a cue from Alicia when it comes to her star style. If you’re interested in trying multiple trends in the same ensemble, keep it streamlined in a dark, monochromatic color like black or navy. Add a pop of color to your lips – like Alicia’s pop of pink – and you’ll be A-list-approved all summer!
