Chanel No. 5 Could Be Banned for Causing Allergies!

Chanel No. 5 Could Be Banned for Causing Allergies!

The perfume, iconic. The star advertising it, sexy. The ad itself? Sadly hilarious.

However that’s not why Chanel no. 5 is facing a ban in Europe. The legendary fragrance apparently has an active allergen, tree moss, which a lot of people happen to be allergic to. Turns out that a European Union committee has listed down some substances that could put European citizens at risk of allergies, and they’re pushing for perfumes containing these substances to be banned from the market.

However, a French perfumer Sylvie Jourdet said that this banning thing could be the end of the whole perfume industry:

“Chanel No 5 has never done any harm to anyone. It is the death of perfume if this continues. The more you use natural ingredients, the more there is a risk of allergies. Lemon, jasmine, bergamot all contain allergenics.”

Ouch.

Other perfumes in danger of being banned are Dior’s Miss Dior, Thierry Mugler’s Angel and Guerlain’s Shalimar. The EU will release new guidelines for the fragrance industry in January 2014. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Meanwhile, it shouldn’t hurt to start stocking up on your favorite fragrance!

To cheer you up, here’s Brad Pitt’s incoherent Chanel No. 5 ad.

L’Oréal Paris appointed its new spokeswoman for an upcoming anti-aging skincare line called Cellular Renaissance: Julianne Moore. The actress said she’s been a loyal L’Oréal user, and that she wants to share the brand’s universal appeal across ages and ethnicities.

“I’m an actual user of the brand and it’s hard not to be. Every modern woman shops everywhere for beauty, but for me it’s mostly the airport or the drugstore. It’s nice to be promoting something that is accessible to everyone.”

Karen Fondu, president of L’Oréal Paris USA said that Moore is:

“an inspiration to women all over the world. She is undeniably one of the most accomplished women of her time — an award-winning actress, children’s book author and supporter of several philanthropic efforts close to her heart. Julianne is the perfect addition to our family of spokespeople.”

Moore, who’s of Scottish descent, is no stranger to beauty regimens:

“My mother was from Scotland and had very fair skin. She wouldn’t allow us to go in the sun,” She also gave a tip to her fans to always use a washcloth to cleanse the face. “It’s an old-fashioned beauty tip for exfoliating.”

Moore is also said to be representing hair color products from L’Oréal, however the brand won’t disclose the line just yet.

Congratulations for the new appointment!

Fergie Launches New Avon Perfume

Songstress and pop icon Fergie is no stranger to the world of fragrance. In fact, her most recent endeavor is actually a follow up to her first fragrance with Avon. The first fragrance, which is called “Outspoken,” now has a new, and slightly edgier sister. This new sister, which will be called “Outspoken Intense,” will become available this July. It will retail for $30 per bottle and will be available exclusively on the Avon website.

Fergie Outspoken Intense 01 211x300 Fergie Launches New Avon Perfume

In a recent press release, Fergie gushed about how much she enjoyed working with Avon on her first fragrance for them and what she wanted to accomplish with the second fragrance. “I had so much fun developing and launching my first fragrance with Avon,” said the singer in the aforementioned release, “so for my second fragrance, I really wanted add a little more edge.”

A commercial for the fragrance, which has been posted on the Avon website, reveals a thoroughly made up Fergie preparing to go on stage for a big concert. Just before heading out to greet her fans, she sprays herself with the perfume. Big lights. Loud music. A sultry walk. The commercial seems to be an exact representation of the scent that Fergie wanted to create.

“Outspoken Intense” is reported to include scents of passion flower, musk, starfruit, and blackberry. This is how Fergie herself has described the new fragrance: “’Outspoken Intense’ is a provocative blend of sexy confidence and daring femininity that captures the thrill and excitement of being center stage. You feel an instant electrifying rush — a feeling like no other.”

We will be interested to see how “Outspoken Intense” does and if Fergie makes any additional forays into the world of fragrance. Of course, the moment there is any news, we will be sure to update you. Stay tuned!

Emma Watson: Lancome’s New Girl

It seems that Emma Watson has a new endeavor in the world of fashion and beauty every week! First she was working with People Tree to create a line of ecologically responsible clothing. Then she was creating a capsule collection with Alberta Ferretti with similar aims in mind. And let’s not forget her stint with Burberry for their 2010 Spring and Summer campaign. This is all in addition to her work as an actress and news about her personal style and fashion statements. She’s also working on her degree at Brown University. “I will still be working towards my degree,” the 20 year old actress said recently, “… it’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought.”
Although big names like Kate Winslet and Katherine Heigl have recently chopped their locks, Emma’s cropped do has been one of the biggest hair stories of late. What’s the latest news? Emma Watson has been tapped to be the newest face of Lancome risque cosmetics.

Emma is joining the ranks of such beauty divas as Penelope Cruz, Anna Hathaway, Julia Roberts, and the previously mentioned Kate Winslet. What makes Emma stand out in this pool of A-list actresses? She’s the youngest. In fact, she is the youngest brand ambassador for Lancome to date. In a recent statement, Youcef Nabi, the president of the company said, “We are delighted by the new collaboration with Emma, who brings a fresh spirit to Lancome” He also said, “Thanks to her charm, romanticism and her incredible modernity, Emma Watson has become the icon of her generation.”
It seems clear that Lancome is interested in going after the youthful market. Much like Burberry did when it featured Emma in its ad campaigns a year ago, Lancome seems to be trying to tap into the younger market.

Jennifer Lopez On Modeling For Gucci Children’s Line

Last year in October, Jennifer Lopez was tapped by Gucci, to model with her 2 year-old twins: Max and Emme for the fashion powerhouse’s new children’s collection. The Gucci children’s collection is ranged between $80 to $1,600, and will benefit UNICEF’s Schools for Africa.

Gucci has already donated $1 million to the educational programs, and also $50,000 to Jennifer Lopez’s charity: The Maribel Initiative, which is an organization that promotes wider range of access to health care for women and children worldwide.

Although it’s for a good cause, Jennifer Lopez have been criticized for putting her twins in the Gucci ads. She stated:

“Frida Giannini from Gucci said she was going to launch the Gucci’s kids line, and they were going to do it in conjunction with a big donation, and they were going to do it with [the United Nations' children's charity] UNICEF, and would we do it?”

Turns out that Marc Anthony was not on board with the idea at the beginning. J. Lo added:

“Marc didn’t really want to put the babies in an ad or anything like that. And I was just like, if they do it, I’d want to do it with my kids because it is for the kids. That’s the connection. That’s what makes it real. We don’t really parade them around like that, so it was for a good cause.”
