The Three New Faces of Carol’s Daughter

Skincare and hair care company Carol’s Daughter is no stranger to celebrity endorsements. Past spokeswomen for the company have included Grammy award winner, R&B star Mary J. Blige. Jada Pinkett Smith has also offered her face to Carol’s Daughter campaigns. The newest face of Carol’s Daughter is actually a trio of faces. This triptych of beauty includes Victoria’s Secret Angel Selita Ebanks, actress and recording artist Solange Knowles, and singer Cassie.

These women were chosen not only for their beauty, but for their racial diversity. Every member of this group is a descendant of at least two racial groups. Cassie, for example, is Filipino and African-American. Solange, also of African-American descent and has has French Creole ancestry as well. Ms. Ebanks is the most racially diverse member of the group. Her family tree includes African, Indian, Irish, and Jamaican ancestors. Despite their great diversity, these women all have one thing in common: they are absolutely gorgeous.

Ms. Ebanks recently spoke to Women’s Wear Daily about this new group of faces for Carol’s Daughter. “Carol’s Daughter doesn’t have just one direct demographic,” explained Ms. Ebanks. She went on to discuss the diversity of this group of spokeswomen as well as the diversity of her own family. “Solange’s hair is a different texture than mine; so is Cassie’s. Our skin and body types are different. Today, people are blended, and I think the three of us are a prime example. Women in my family range from vanilla to the deepest chocolate.”

The first product that Cassie, Solange, and Selita will promote is, in fact, a hair product. The product is the Monai Repairing Collection, which is a system for hair care that includes three steps. The Monai Repairing Collection will debut on the Carol’s Daughter website on May 1st. It will be available in Sephora stores on the same date.

Emma Watson and People Tree

There are a number of clothing collections such as Two Star Dog, Blue Fish, and Bloe Canoe that have been using sustainable, organic materials for decades. But only recently has this sort of fabrication begun to achieve celebrity status. Stella McCartney is known for using green and cruelty-free fabrics and materials in her clothing lines. Livia Firth — Colin’s wife — is also known for appearing on the red carpet wearing ecologically responsible gowns. Now there is a new face on the scene of eco-luxury. And the fresh face is that of Emma Watson.

Emma and People Tree have recently released a video showing off the latest duds that the company has produced. The video is shot in sunny fields with spires of yellow and green plants flowing in the breeze. Dresses and tunics hang from trees and dance in the wind. The patterns include gingham, checks, florals, and even polka-dots. In addition to being set in nature, these articles of clothing have also been made out of fabrics that are made with nature in mind. Fabrics include hand-woven, fair trade cotton and silk as well as organic materials.

In addition to repping the line and appearing in People Tree ad campaigns, Emma was also involved in forming the silhouettes of the garments. In a recent interview Emma discussed the process of trying on each piece in the spring/summer line and working to get the fits just right. After doing this, she traveled to Bangladesh to meet the people who make the clothing for People Tree and witness the fabrication process. “It was an incredible and life-changing experience — I really wish everyone had the chance to see the difference Fair Trade makes with their own eyes.” She went on to say that “…it’s a small miracle that we as consumers can participate in a process that is keeping skills and communities alive and helping them to prosper.”

When Disney Goes Hollywood!

Latifah 003 When Disney Goes Hollywood!

Queen Latifah along with her Hollywood peers were tapped by Disney to support the “Let The Memories Begin” campaign. The campaign was shot by celebrated photographer, Annie Leibovitz, and from hearing her name alone you’d wonder what she’s up to this time.  Leibovitz gave Latifah the Disney treatment and portrayed the singer/actress as the evil Ursula from the famous Disney animation feature: “Little Mermaid”

Along with Latifah, 30 Rock funny man, Alec Baldwin was also captured by Leibovitz’s camera as the Spirit of the Magic Mirror.  Baldwin posed with actress Olivia Wilde who portrayed the Evil Queen from “Snow White and Seven Dwarfs”.

Julianne Moore for Talbots Spring 2011

One of our favorite things about springtime – aside from the blossoming flowers, clear blue skies and warmer weather, of course – is the debut of all the new spokesmodels in the spring issues of our favorite fashion magazines. And even though our economy is still entrenched in the doldrums, and our financial future is uncertain, the Spring 2011 fashion spreads did not disappoint. In fact, it’s a refreshing change to see some of our favorite A-list stars front ads for affordable brands. Katie Holmes has an endless clothing budget and full-time staff, yet she opted to rep local shopping mall staple Ann Taylor this year. Taylor Swift, the biggest name in country music, is the new face of the super affordable Cover Girl Naturaluxe foundation – a cosmetic staple easily found at Walmart, Target and your local drugstore. And recently, one of our favorite Hollywood redheads, Julianne Moore, signed on to be the Spring 2011 face of Talbots.

The timing of the debut couldn’t be more perfect, with the March 2011 glossies rolling off the presses directly in the midst of awards show season, in which Moore is nominated for several accolades for her portrayal of a lesbian mother in, “The Kids Are Alright.” And even more importantly than the perfect timing and promotion, are the actual clothes themselves. Maybe we’re just starved for spring looks after a long and snow-covered winter, but with the brand’s pastels, taupes and florals, we’ve never seen Talbots look more fashionable. Take a look at the photos below, and start planning your spring shopping spree!

With a lush greenhouse as the beautiful backdrop, Julianne practically oozes spring sexiness in the photos, and we’re particularly smitten with a few of the pieces. The full-skirted linen dress in a denim-blue hue is perfect for spring, and will act as a new neutral in your wardrobe. And for under $150, it’s an affordable luxury available at your local mall. Check out Julianne in the March issues of your favorite magazines, and sound off below about your favorites!

Ms. Moore in Mr. Dior

Ashton Kutcher’s new romantic comedy, “No Strings Attached” is already getting rave reviews from fans and critics. His costar in the flick, Natalie Portman, is happily making press rounds to promote the fun and frothy film – especially in the wake of her intense, psychological drama “Black Swan.” Everyone from movie execs to movie goers are thrilled to see a funny film do so well at the box office – and we can’t wait to check it out ourselves. But first, we need to take a minute to drool over Mrs. Ashton Kutcher’s equally fun and floaty Christian Dior creation at the film’s January 20 New York City screening. Even though the late-January temperatures in the city dictated a heavy winter wardrobe, Demi chose a daring and bold cobalt blue and black frock from the Dior Spring 2011 collection. Check out the photos below – and discover how easy it can be to pull off such a saturated hue!

On the Christian Dior runway, the dress Demi chose was styled completely differently. The daring design house paired the already bold blue with an equally outrageous rainbow-colored floral lei and strappy shoes with ties that mirrored the dress’s pom-poms. The look was very imaginative and very Dior runway-esque – but not so practical for everyday wear, even for an A-lister like Demi. The version she rocked at the “No Strings Attached” screening boasted a fluttery black cap sleeve, and a much more modest knee-length hem. Demi is the perfect example of how to translate a fanciful high-fashion runway ensemble into a perfect, demure look for a date night with your hubby.

We’re also loving the bold cobalt shade of blue in this dress. We’ve seen every color in the rainbow waltz down the red carpet for Spring 2011, and are equally excited about every shade – from the palest pink to the most daring orange. Demi grounds this saturated blue with basic black accessories, and simple shiny hair, which lets the bright color make a perfect statement. Take a cue from our favorite ageless star when rocking a loud color this season!
