The hardest challenge for celebrity clothing lines is how to have a full staying power. When our editors saw BOOMTHO by pro basketball player, Rod Benson, we all agree that BOOMTHO will stay relevant for a long time due to its awesome mix of streetwear, skate and popular art. And not just clothing, BOOMTHO also consists of accessories and fun gimmicks to add fun in its collection. We chatted with Benson about BOOMTHO and trust us, you’re going to want a piece of the brand.

How did BOOMTHO start?
In college, a group of us started saying a bunch of stupid things. BOOMTHO was one of those things. We made a music video with it and never looked back. It was a movement.

What would you describe as the line’s main swagger?
Colors. We never fit in. We stand out. Big prints and bright colors are a surefire way to not look like anyone else.

Which celebrity do you think BOOMTHO identifies the most with?
Will Smith / Fresh Prince. Or maybe Sidney Dean ala “White Men Can’t Jump.”

Being a celebrity designer, which other celebrity would you like to collaborate with in terms of fashion?
Man, I think Kanye has some crazy ideas that can only be fully understood if you talk to him face to face.

Who’s your favorite fashion designer?
I really like Marc Jacobs. I just wish they had more stuff my size.

What does BOOMTHO has in store this season? What’s coming up next?
Our 3 piece tank tops our going to be huge this summer. Longer, fitted cuts, and bright colors and tribal prints. I’m excited to rock my own stuff.

Hello, please introduce your brand and how it started.
This is TLFI. It started with some elbow grease, a couple grand, access to a silkscreening factory and a lot of hard work. A lot a lot a lot.

What and who inspire TLFI?
Music, LA, Friends, movie, humor, life.

We took a peek at your Holly-hood collection, can you tell us what’s it all about?
They are parodies of your favorite idols.. Done in the name of pure fun of course. Artwork is by Henry Lewis.

Justin Bieber wore a TLFI t-shirt once. Is he a fan? Are there other celebs who wear TLFI?
I don’t know [if he's a fan]. Yes, we have famous fans of the brand, just keep an eye out…

Hot – sweaters, parkas, turtlenecks, down goose jackets, wool shirts.

Let me introduce the brand to you guys a little: Purple Cloth is a Toronto based womens line that merges the elements of cheeky graphic images on knitwear with a feminine silhouette and the braggadocio of the street wear scene. Can you show us what’s coming our way this year? Your Spring/Summer 2011 collection, maybe?
We are very excited about our upcoming Spring delivery which we are starting production for very soon, your gonna be seeing tanks, tees & dresses – all graphic driven. I don’t want to give too much away, but I can say that it’s going to be the 3 F’s: fly, flirty, and fun! Think sweets, cupcakes & desserts mixed in with poking fun at female body parts!

Which celebrity do you think would rock Purple Cloth the best?
Nicki Minaj & Korean pop group, 2NE1 are our 2 faves right now as far as a true icon of what a Purple Cloth’s girl is. They got the look, the sound, and that bad-bitch, yet that real-life doll like feature we absolutely adore. We love girls that look like we dreamt them into real life! Who wouldn’t? Being regular and ordinary is boring. And regular and ordinary is the exact opposite of what we are representing. How much more fun is it to be colorful & flavorful over the bland masses? We also had the pleasure of meeting Amber Rose this past year, (who’s probably most famous to dating Kanye West) she’s a video vixen turned socialite, and a real life barbie! Her swag has been something we’ve always felt was so dope – she has such a strong sense of individuality and she knows what really works for her and her body type. She was also very sweet in person and loved all the pieces we gifted her! (We also blogged about this as well, you can check out photos of her @ www.purplecloth.com) We basically love any girls that have their own sense of look and style and really own it. I think we live in a generation of followers rather than leaders who don’t take risks not only in fashion but with themselves. They are too shy or timid to be comfortable in their own skin – that’s not girl power at all!

Which celebrity do you want to collaborate with the most, in terms of fashion-designing?
The first person that comes to mind is Gwen Stefani – I think she’s one of the few celebrity designers that designs for her personal taste – she’s always seen photographed in her own clothing. I see celebrity owned brands and when they are out, and they aren’t rocking their own stuff – that doesn’t seem authentic to me. I also really love Gwen’s unique look, it’s very punk/rock meets vintage hollywood – I mean who else would play Jean Harlow other then her in a movie? She’s not doing much in music anymore as far as I know now, but she’s a full time mother to 2 beautiful children and a wife. These are some things I want in the near future as well, so I just really respect her overall, and I think her brand and her personal style aesthetic would def bring something different to the table, for a collabo project.

What are the essential fashion things a girl should have in her closet?
Purple Cloth of course!! Our tees goes very easily from day to night. I love girls in tee & jeans – it’s very effortless and relaxed look that will never go out of style Tees with fun & colorful prints like our Purple Cloth tees show that the girl has personality and sense of humour which is always sexy on a woman.

What’s your favorite celebrity-owned clothing line?
There are a handful of celebrity owned brands that I love – I’m gonna say Elizabeth & James by Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen. I’m currently wearing one of their flannel button downs today at the office, over a Purple Cloth tee with their signature corset buttons on down the back. I love their relaxed fit and style of the brand, with immaculate attention to details such as this.

Any plans to branch out to accessories?
Yes, we have made accessories in the past like belts, cuffs and bowties – we do plan on branching out into more accessories in the future. We are in talks with an accessories manufacturer, for hats, bags and gloves.

Hi Kaila, we’ve heard so much about your jewelry line: Hello Drama, and also your all-girl band, Nylon Pink. How did this all start?
I met the very talented Katt and we clicked instantly. I was already pursuing a solo career as a singer and I discovered that she played bass. We both grew up listening to Guns N Roses and the jewelry line grew out of and was inspired by the music. Our first single was called Hello Drama and it exemplified our band early on.

What’s Nylon Pink’s music all about?
Nylon Pink’s music is all about our lives….boys, dreams, drama, love and partying! We are excited this past year with music featured on MTV’s The Hills, The City, Jersey Shore, and The Real World!

Who’s your main inspiration in music?
We are very inspired by Guns N Roses of course, Garbage, Muse and Lady Gaga!

Let’s talk fashion now: As the brain behind the brand, how would you describe Hello Drama’s style and where do you take your inspirations from?
Hello Drama’s style can be described as a little bit punk mixed with Japanese street fashion and a lot of pink!

What are the basic fashion items a girl should have in her closet to get her through a day of work and play?
For work it’s all about comfort and style, a girl should always have a pair of comfortable heels and a classic skirt that accents your best attributes. When going out you can turn it up a notch and pair a fun, flirty dress with some chunky high heels.

Who’s your favorite fashion/jewelry designer?
We love Betsey Johnson, Heatherette, Liz Lisa, Vivianne Westwood & Tarina Tarantino- the fashion rebels!

What are we going to see from Hello Drama Jewelry in 2011?
