Matthew McConaughey’s baby mama, Camila Alves, is probably having a major headache right now.  The trendy celebrity-preferred boutique, Kitson, which holds her fashion label, Muxo, claims that her handbag line isn’t selling.  A Kitson rep said, “When Camila launched Muxo in August last year, she told us she was ready for hard work and was going to do all she could do to promote the line.  But she hasn’t even been into the store once since, and we can’t even get in contact with her.”

That’s not all.  Kitson also claimed to have spent $50,000 on Camila’s Muxo handbags which were produced entirely in Brazil, and they’ve only sold half and ended up in a $25,000 deficit.  It gets more ridiculous when Kitson throws a free DVD of Matthew McConaughey’s “Surfer Dude” for every purchase of Muxo handbags at an already 60% off slashed price… and the sale isn’t getting better.

The Kitson rep also said that Camila’s price point is too high and that Camila gave false promises to design a diaper bag, but didn’t deliver.  Ouch!

But Camila’s people fought back with a LONG statement.

“Ms. Alves, a dedicated business owner and mother, is committed on a full time basis to the minute-by-minute operations at Muxo, a commitment that has not wavered before or since the birth of her son Levi. Ms. Alves designs and manufacturers her one-of-a-kind line for the specialty and luxury hand bag markets using fine leather materials and labor intensive hand texturing techniques. Each bag, hand cut, finished and sewn, requires a second overlay process for the final artwork application that makes each and every bag unique and one-of-a-kind. The pricing of Muxo handbags is both appropriate and reasonable for the retailers and their customers.”

And this statement is endorsed by Bettina Duncan, owner of Bettina Duncan at Fred Segal, who insisted that Muxo bags have been flying off the shelves.

He will be keeping it very casual and is setting himself apart from other celebrity designers because his line will not only be a clothing line, but a “one stop shop for everything needed at the beach.” The line will include t-shirts, swim suits, flip flops, and bandanas as well as frisbees and other beach accessories.
