Natalie Portman Dazzled in a Floral Dress

In the 1820s, fashion was reflected based on the strong emphasis on strong emotion as a source of aesthetic experience and its recognition of the picturesque. It is the time when delicate floral prints on light backgrounds were increasingly popular. Since combinations of florals and stripes were fashionable at that time, we think the modern world seriously took the importance of using printed designs to channel a positive outlook in life.

No wonder Natalie Portman, the award-winning star, chose to dazzle in a  floral dress as she ran errands in Hollywood yesterday.

The Oscar-winning actress looked cheerful as she strolled in the streets of Hollywood to complete some tasks. She donned an eye-catching floral dress which showed off her enviably toned legs. To highlight the classic look, she opted for minimum makeup and unfussy hairstyle. The stylish pair of brown strappy sandals, chic handbag and dark sunglasses completed the look. She was snapped carrying two DVDs and had water to keep her hydrated.

The pretty Black Swan star was recently spotted wearing a pretty rust-colored summer dress while checking out local produce at a farmer’s market in the neighborhood of Los Feliz with fiancé Benjamin Millepied. She paired the trendy mini dress with cute strappy sandals, modish handbag and a fashionable blue hat.

Reportedly, Natalie is planning to shoot a documentary about veganism, hoping to turn Jonathan Foer’s novel Eating Animals into a film. In a latest interview with a French website, Foer stated, “She contacted me, she told me that she loved the book. I know her now. I will help her eventually but it will be her vision. She’s only at the very beginning.”

A Perfect Plum on Scarlett Johansson

As obsessed as we may be with all of the ivories, silvers, and nudes that we saw on the red carpet, we’re equally thrilled about the ode to plum that appeared among the best dressed of the evening. The color plum was not as popular on the red carpet as the “cloud scale” colors, but in each instance it was show-stopping.

Scarlett Johansson wore an absolutely incredible plum colored gown by Dolce and Gabbana. The dress featured a high neck, an open back, a train, and a gorgeous floral lace. Scarlett accessorized her gown with jewels by Anna Hu Haute Joaillerie. Her burgundy gown was perfectly accented by the diamonds and emeralds in the baubles. The ruby accents were particularly well-suited to the wine color of her gown. In keeping with another trend that emerged on the red carpet, Scarlett’s dress was form-fitting.

Natalie Portman appeared on the red carpet in a gorgeous purple gown by Rodarte, adding to her list of pregnancy chic successes. The gown, which was detailed with Swarovski crystals, perfectly and beautifully accented her baby bump. Natalie wore Jimmy Choo heels and carried a clutch purse by Roger Vivier. Her earrings were beaded, grape colored tassel earrings by Tiffany & Company. They did a wonderful job of showing off her long, ivory neck. Stunning, just stunning!

There were other touches of plum in the red carpet crowd on Sunday night, but it was Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman who really dedicated their Oscar look to this color. And we are so pleased that they did. While honeysuckle and orange may be the big colors for the spring and summer of 2011, we are thinking that plum, wine, burgundy, and magenta are going to be important colors for fall, holiday, and winter this year.

Natalie Portman Disgusted by John Galliano

There’s been a very vocal if slightly mixed reaction to John Galliano’s recent anti-Semitic remarks. Mr. Galliano, the chief designer for the house of Dior was suspended and then fired for making racist comments in a Parisian cafe. Video was taken of the designer’s outburst. Although he slurs his speech, he audibly says, “People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be…gassed.” In the video, Mr. Galliano also says, “I love Hitler.” The video, which was taken on a cell phone, was obtained by The Sun, a British daily paper.

John Galliano Outburst

Natalie Portman, the new face of the Miss Dior Cherie perfume, has spoken out against these inciting statements. “I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video,” said Portman in a recent release. “In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way.” It has yet to be seen if Natalie’s contract with Dior will be altered or broken based on these recent events. Mr. Galliano is currently being investigated and may face criminal prosecution in France, where it is against the law to make anti-Semitic comments.

Natalie is not the only Hollywood a-lister who is shunning Galliano and, by extension, the house of Dior. Only two stars, Nicole Kidman and Sharon Stone, wore Dior gowns on the red carpet at the Oscars last week. By contrast, Dior has been a red carpet favorite among many actresses and celebs.

There are some Hollywood names who are less disturbed by Mr. Galliano’s comments. One such person is Dior devotee and former Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field referred to the recent events as “John Galliano theater.” In a recent statement in support of the designer, Patricia said, “John lives in theater. It’s theater. It’s farce. But people in fashion don’t recognize the farce in it. All of a sudden they don’t know him.”

Natalie Portman’s Pregnancy Style in Palm Springs

Fans across the globe are over-the-moon thrilled for Natalie Portman, who recently stepped out with new fiance Benjamin Millepied (the lead choreographer on the set of “Black Swan”) – as well as a new baby bump. Portman’s been a serial monogamist in Hollywood for years – getting serious with everyone from “Scrubs” funnyman Zac Braff to her “Brothers” costar Jake Gyllenhaal – and everyone was surprised when she finally let her dreamy dancer beau Ben finally put a ring on it. Of course, fans of Portman’s moody films are excited to see what career moves she makes during (and post) pregnancy – but fans of her indie fashion sense are waiting with baited breath to see how her style will evolve along with her growing family!

Well, we don’t have to wait anymore because on Saturday, January 8, Portman allowed her baby bump and massive diamond engagement ring to make their red carpet debuts simultaneously at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival, in Palm Springs, CA. As much as we were blinded (and impressed!) by her huge sparkler, we were even more smitten with her demure Vionnet minidress. Known as the “Queen of the Bias Cut” in the industry, Madeleine Vionnet has a knack for creating the most flattering designs for growing baby bumps. And Portman’s frock was a perfect choice for her Film Festival appearance.

The dress was cut above the knee, but still ladylike and feminine, thanks to its sheer long sleeves and cute sequined collar. We love the matching sequined cuffs, and think they add the perfect amount of sparkle to an otherwise black-and-white ensemble. Portman is proving that expecting mothers can walk a fine line between appropriate high fashion and gaudy, skintight maternity frocks that mimic sausage casing.

Portman’s pretty side-parted chignon was the perfect accessory to her floaty maternity mini, and we think her matching black bag and shoes complimented the look without being too loud. We can’t wait to see what else this stylish mommy-to-be puts together before her bundle of joy arrives!

I’m not really feeling the pumps, they look like grandma shoes to me, but I guess that is what floats some people’s boats. The flats are okay… just a little boring. There are some more flashy designs on the website, but nothing that really stands out. Mostly very basic and simple designs, not really sure if they’re worth the 200 plus price. Natalie Portman was photographed wearing the red pumps from the line to the event:

Would you pay over $200 for these shoes?
