Thirty of the artists who were nominated for Grammys this year have their own clothing line. Six of these clothing lines had their Spring 2008 collections featured at the Grammy Salute to Fashion on Thursday, February 7. The event took place in California and was hosted by Jimmy Jam, a Grammy-winning producer and Recording Academy Chair.
The clothing companies featured were Beyonce’s House of Dereon, Jennifer Lopez’ Just Sweet, Diddy’s Sean John, Jay-Z’s Rocawear, Jessica Simpson’s Jesica Simpson Collection, and Justin Timberlake’s William Rast. Hal Rubenstein, the Fashion Director of In Style magazine which sponsored the event said that these six designers were chosen to participate in the ten minute fashion show because “they had the widest selection, they had the highest profile, they had great distributioin and people know who these people are.” Jessica Simpson’s collection showcased swimsuits while Justin Timberlake’s featured jeans and dressy blouses.House of Dereon and Sean John brought evening wear, with Sean John featuring both its women’s and men’s collections. Jennifer Lopez’ portion m of the show consisted mostly of bright day dresses.
Although none of the actual featured designers attended the event there were many other celebrities such as pop star Miley Cyrus, Ludacris, Akon, and Rihanna who performed after the show.
