It’s no secret that Gossip Girl – and ever-present entry on best dressed lists across the globe – Blake Lively is chummy with Chanel head honcho and sharp-tongued designer Karl Lagerfeld. The two are often photographed together at high society events looking more like buddies at a bar than two famous stars at a staged PR party, and Lively chooses Lagerfeld designs frequently for her own personal appearances. The two are a match made in fashion heaven. She’s a gorgeous, tall, modelesque actress adored by teen girls, who happens to look fabulous in Chanel designs, and he’s a straight-faced designer with a less-than-friendly reputation. The pair can simultaneously boost each other’s personal image and fashion street cred, respectively. Now, industry insiders are abuzz with rumors that Ms. Lively will be the new 2011 face of Chanel handbags – and may even replace famously estranged Lagerfeld muse model Ines de la Fressange.
The endorsement seems like a perfect fit, and Lively and Lagerfeld were recently spotted traipsing around Paris together, allegedly preparing for the shoot. As usual, Lively was captured wearing classic Chanel lace up boots, looking beautiful alongside her white ponytail-clad travel buddy.
The Chanel handbag campaign is scheduled to hit national publications early next year and run through the summer, perfectly timed to coincide with Lively’s first foray onto the big screen. The life-size Barbie Doll herself stars alongside hottie Ryan Reynolds in next summer’s biggest blockbuster, “The Green Lantern.” As if classic comic books-turned movies really needed any help selling tickets (2002’s Spiderman starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst still holds a spot in the top-ten best selling movies of all time), the Lively/Chanel deal will likely send fashionistas flocking to theaters with their own Chanel handbags in tow!
What do you think about this collaboration? Was it a no-brainer, given Lively’s apparent personal friendship with Lagerfeld? Or a cheap trick to hook the female demographic into buying “The Green Lantern” tickets? Maybe it was a little bit of both – but either way, we can’t wait to see the gorgeous photos!
