
Lindsay Lohan. Ashley Judd. Sarah Jessica Parker. Jennifer Lopez. These are just a few of the dozens — perhaps hundreds — of actresses who have spent time designing their own clothing lines when they were not busy in front of the camera. There is a new name to add to this list and the name is Hilary Swank. In addition to having a last name that, in fact, means fashionable, elegant, and grand, Ms. Swank is also drawing on her roots as an athlete. As a young woman, she was a gymnast. Since then, she has also taken on roles as athletes, most notable in Million Dollar Baby in which she played a boxer.
This new line will be filled mainly with athletic wear items. In order to produce the line, Hilary will work with Designers Management Agency. The agency has been involved with many other big names in the business and has also worked with the winners of Project Runway. Marc Beckman, one of the co-founders of Designers Management Agency, was recently interviewed by Women’s Wear Daily about Hilary’s new venture. In the interview, Marc Beckman described the line as “a contemporary, outdoor, athleisure brand”.
Apparently Hilary Swank’s new line of clothing started as an idea for a set of t-shirts only, particularly t-shirts that would work well as gym attire. The idea then blossomed into a more complete line of athletic wear. It will be very interesting to watch this new line of clothing as it evolves. There have not yet been any previews of the clothing line, but with a fashionable former athlete and a powerful branding force, there is a good chance that it will have fashionistas working up a sweat. Hilary Swank’s red carpet successes hint that her clothing line will reflect a strong style aesthetic.
