Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and with shopaholics in a frenzy over fun and fabulous holiday finds, it’s easy to forget that spring will be here before we know it. The Spring 2011 fashion shows are in the history books already – and from what the designers have teased, it’s safe to say that there will be plenty of exciting looks once the weather heats up again – from New York City to Paris to Vancouver. After a season of bulky, cumbersome coats, sweaters and boots, spring always provides a respite with a lighter color palate, flowing fabrics, and a general sense of excitement. Spring 2011 is no exception, with everyone from Karl Lagerfeld to Tom Ford displaying easy looks at their uncharacteristically carefree shows. Below, see our picks for Spring 2011 Best of the Best.
Lagerfeld ignited his Paris audience with a Spring 2011 Chanel show completely out of character for the stern designer. In a completely unexpected move, he reconciled and reunited with his estranged long-time muse, model Ines de la Fressange. Why the two parted ways to begin with largely remains a mystery, but the model’s surprise appearance in the Chanel show in Paris was thrilling. Making the show even more memorable wasn’t the beautiful sheer spring dresses or pale and pastel colored signature Chanel blazers and skirts, but male model Brad Kroenig’s adorable two-year-old son, donning the latest in Chanel baby chic. The cutesy lightheartedness of the show was a perfect prelude to Spring – and a welcome departure from Lagerfeld’s usual serious productions.
Other exciting highlights from the spring shows included Tom Ford breaking his fashion silence with his debut namesake collection, after a six year hiatus from the industry. His private Spring 2011 showing is rumored to be fantastic – but we won’t see any promotional photos until December. This spring, between the usual flirty floral dresses and feathery accessories, the designers themselves are really shaking things up!
