The season of flashy holiday and new year movie premieres is officially upon us. And every metro area from New York City to Los Angeles is rolling out the red carpet at glitzy hotels and ballrooms so stars can show off their acting chops for critics and industry insiders. It’s an exciting time of year for movie buffs, who indulge in the juicy plotlines and the occasional acting flub – but even more exciting for lovers of fashion and style to follow Hollywood’s best and worst red carpet looks. It’s the one time of year we’re totally inundated with premieres and can garner inspiration from the movie stars themselves.
Recently in New York City, one of our favorite style risk takers – and perennial best dressed list maker – Halle Berry, wowed movie goers at the premiere of her new drama Frankie and Alice in head to toe brocade. Movie critics are already buzzing about Berry’s outstanding performance in what’s rumored to be her most challenging role yet. The beautiful Academy Award winner portrays a woman with multiple personalities, and the difficult struggles people with psychological disorders face everyday. While we can’t wait to check out the film when it hits the big screen early next year, we’re perfectly satiated in the meantime with the fierce brocade suit the star rocked at the premiere. The flashy gold and black look certainly isn’t for the fashion faint-of-heart, but is a new and interesting take on the sequin look we’ve been seeing so much of this holiday. As usual, Ms. Berry totally nails the look. She keeps it chic with simple and classic pointy black pumps and a black ruffled shirt.
To stand out in a sea of glitter this holiday party season, take a cue from Halle and give brocade a try. These days, you can find the luxe fabric at almost any price point – and even though a head-to-toe look might not be your style, a simple brocade pencil skirt and solid color shirt would be on trend without going overboard.
