At the end of every calendar year, style fanatics wait with baited breath for fashion bible Vogue to release its “Best Dressed of the Year” issue. The Best Dressed issue is an event for anyone who loves fashion, beauty – and especially Hollywood stars. It often sparks heated debate on online message boards and among normally cordial friends. Vogue has never been one to shy away from controversy, and the 2010 Best Dressed issue is proving to be no exception to that rule. It’s a big year for the glossy publication – naming not only annual winners but also Best Dressed of the Decade, and they’ve crowned notorious, (in)famous Kate Moss fashion queen of the past 10 years.
The title is not completely unfounded. Kate Moss has certainly hit her share of fashion high notes since 2000. Her style is bold, unapologetic and completely unique. She is the type of woman who wears whatever she wants and thumbs her nose at trends, which is why she is largely credited for bringing the Wellie-style rain boot into mainstream fashion. Before Kate, rain boots were specifically designed for kindergarteners to safely jump through puddles. Now, every major fashion house from Louis Vuitton to Marc Jacobs has a signature take on the Wellie trend. Thanks, Kate.
The often-embattled supermodel and tabloid regular can also be credited for the skinny jean trend, which is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Remember the days when trouser-cut and boot-cut denim was all you could find? Yeah, we can’t remember those days either ever since Miss Moss ushered in the Decade of the Skinny.
Kate Moss is a proven fashion icon, but a controversial choice for Best Dressed of the Decade thanks to her less-than-wholesome antics off the runway.
