What’s with yellow? Yellow evokes thoughts of fresh scents, sunny days, and…well, butter. It can be said that yellow is the color of happiness, and when it comes to clothes, it’s never wrong to choose to wear a happy color.
We have always been enchanted with that little black dress ever connected with Coco Chanel. Black is often associated with glittering diamonds and all the glamour the evening brings.
Yellow is underrated on the red carpet, with many stars opting for the safe black, white, or blue. Not to mention the average tween girls’ love for the oh so feminine pink as if on a consensus.
Yellow has become like a sleeper hit recently, although there have been occasional spurts of yellow winners in the past. The 2012 Emmy Awards has seen more stars wearing the “happy color” than ever before. It seems celebrities have suddenly gone yellow over yellow. They showed up in summery ensembles.
Wearing yellow is a piece of butter cake – if you know the right shade for your skin tone and hair color. Consider the possibility of looking too pale in pastel yellow or over-the-top in bright canary yellow.
Here are some stars who seem to have found their perfect stride in…yellow.
Who could forget Kate Hudson’s satiny evening dress in 2003’s “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?”It went well with her blond tresses. In case you forgot, here’s that lemony number to refresh your memory:
At the 2012 Emmy Awards, redhead Julianne Moore wasn’t only a winner for her acting but for this vibrant gown by Christian Dior. The number emphasized her fiery waves, and she looked as high-fashion as intended.
And yes, the yellow magic continued with Claire Danes, who also bagged an acting award. The mommy-to-be looked gorgeous in a loose-fitting Lanvin dress the color of mustard.
Hannah Simone of “New Girl,” chose to wear a flowing, one-strap pale yellow gown from Pucci. The light shade was perfect for her beautiful skin. We loved the way the dress softly hugged her curves. And we couldn’t imagine a more gorgeous hairstyle to go with the fresh, summery look.
Julie Bowen also showed up in a yellow dress – and she also collected an award for her work in “Modern Family.” She was stunning – in every sense of the word – in a bright number by red-carpet favorite Monique Lhuillier, which featured a stylish mermaid cut.
It seems Fergie can never go wrong. She got this look right at the 2008 Grammy Awards – very femininely beautiful in a strapless Calvin Klein dress with an asymmetrical hemline.
Yellow can be worn to introduce a new image. Reese Witherspoon showed up at the 2007 Golden Globes sporting a razor-sharp haircut and wearing a yellow canary Nina Ricci paired with unforgettably gorgeous red shoes.
In March of 2012, Nicole Richie looked fresh as spring in a bright yellow number by Julien Macdonald gown at the “Fashion Star” celebration at Macy’s Herald Square in NYC. She accessorized with a Jimmy Choo clutch bag and House of Harlow jewelry.
Nicole’s close friend, reality star Kim Kardashian, was leggy in canary yellow at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. The brunette looked every bit Hollywood-glamorous in this Elie Saab crepe gown with slits. A diamond bracelet, fabulous black heels, and red lipstick completed the look.
A hit becomes an elegant classic. This is our hands-down winner for all things yellow on the red carpet ever.
The memory of Renee Zellweger at the 2001 Oscars still has that quality of freshly squeezed lemons on our minds. She looked picture-perfect in a soft, vintage Jean Desses gown. Simple but sophisticated. We can’t get over it.
