We’ve been proclaiming our love of the hot menswear trend for months now, and we’ve certainly seen our share of the boy-inspired pieces executed with style on red carpets and society parties across the globe. It’s official – menswear is here to stay for 2011, and we are excited to see what new twists our favorite stars and celebrities have in store! Just when we thought there were no new ways to spice up a basic suit and tie, “90210” hottie AnnaLynne McCord adds a pop of color and completely changes the menswear game.
At the November 9th People’s Choice Awards press conference in West Hollywood, McCord hit the red carpet to make her obligatory press rounds in a charcoal gray, menswear-inspired suit. The young actress is so beautiful, of course she made the suit look feminine and sexy – the jacket and pants were slim cut and totally flattering – but she added her own girly twist. And it wasn’t the powder blue tie, which was totally cute and complimentary, by the way. It was her choice to rock bright red platform pumps with her cropped pants that made her entire ensemble pop on the red carpet.
McCord’s red shoes are a testament to just how easily an outfit or seemingly tired trend can be punched up a few notches with fun, bright footwear. Sure, we would have loved her suit anyway – it was perfect for her body and for the business-like occasion – but her red shoes showed her fierce sense of style and kept the entire look from becoming too boyish and boring.
If you’re loving this look – or even if you can’t get enough “90210” repeats on the CW Network, it’s an easy one to steal. Next time you suit up for work or a dinner meeting, instead of reaching for your usual black pumps, try a brightly colored pair. Red is classic – and can act as a neutral with an otherwise monochromatic style – but any fun color would work. Try a bright shoe for your next formal night out – and break your habit of always reaching for basic black!
