Devoted fans of the David Nicholls’ novel One Day are understandably curious about the film, which premiered last week. Some have said that star Anne Hathaway is too pretty to play Emma, the lead female, and others have reservations over her attempt at a Yorkshire accent. Some critics echo this sentiment.
None of this has fazed Hathaway in the least. At the film’s London premiere, held at the Westfield Shopping Centre, the 28-year old actress was glowing and confident. Having just stepped off filming duties for The Dark Knight Rises, in which she plays feline felon Catwoman, Hathaway flaunted her perfect shape by dashing on the pink carpet in a figure-hugging lace creation from Sarah Burton’s 2012 Resort collection for Alexander McQueen. She looked regal and striking in the whole ensemble, accentuated with tan peep-toe heeled shoes and stacked bracelets with her wavy hair loosely flowing on her shoulders.
It was the second time Hathaway experienced a McQueen moment while promoting One Day. Earlier this month, she wore a black and gold number from McQueen at a preview screening held in New York, proving that Anne is always guaranteed to appear looking quite impeccable.
The glamorous Anne was quite ecstatic, and enjoyed the support of David Nicholl, the author of the book from which the film was adapted. “’Everyone who’s read the book knows that Emma Morley is the greatest girl in the world,” she said in an interview. On the other hand, Nicholl stated: “We don’t want to be too manipulative but the intention of my book was always that it should make people laugh and also make them cry, and I hope the film does the same.”
