“Gossip Girl” Blake Lively has long been considered a Chanel sweetheart. Besides looking drop-dead gorgeous in classic Chanel designs, she’s often spotted with Chanel king Karl Lagerfeld, looking more like his BFF than a star client. The two often lunch together, or trot around Paris and New York City like old college buddies, so it was no surprise when the luxury label tapped Lively to be the next face of their Mademoiselle handbag collection. And in celebration of the pair’s latest project, Chanel hosted a dinner in Blake’s honor on March 2nd at NYC’s famed La Grenouille. The glamorous event was star-studded, but the real standout of the night was Blake’s Chanel Spring 2009 Couture party dress, complete with head-turning accessories!
Even though the Chanel design is from a few seasons back, it’s actually spot on-trend for Spring 2011. We’ve seen ballerina-inspired pieces prance down runways from Manhattan to Milan, thanks to the soaring popularity of the blockbuster hit, “Black Swan.” The delicate details on Blake’s white Chanel dress mirror the ballet trend with chiffon and organza ruffles on the neckline and skirt. Even the shape of the dress mimics a full ballerina skirt, and the feminine cinching at the waist is perfect on Blake’s long and lean figure.
As much as we adored Blake’s dress for her big night, we need to take a moment to drool over the real star of her ensemble – the dazzling Lorraine Schwartz platinum, green emerald and yellow diamond earrings. Since the blonde starlet’s ensemble was entirely white, down to her toe shoe-inspired satin Christian Louboutin platforms, her emerald sparklers added the only pop of color. Naturally, Blake carried a Chanel Mademoiselle handbag to complete her pristine outfit, and we’re loving every last detail.
If you’re interested in trying a few frothy ballerina pieces this spring, remember to anchor your look with one pop of color like a great statement earring, to avoid looking more Swan Lake than Style Star.
