When the much-awaited royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton finally took place, many fashion enthusiasts kept an eye on her every move and outfits on that historical day of the royals. As a result, she became a famed fashion icon, and her style is constantly sought after by lovely fashionistas across the world. So, it’s not surprising that many brides-to-be want to wear the same gown she donned on her wedding day. But the latest bridal clothing trend actually originated from her evening wedding reception outfit, the beautiful white Alexander McQueen gown covered with a chic white angora bolero.
The cute white small jumper, which covered the shoulders of Duchess Kate on her evening wedding reception, sparked an increase in sales of similar items. Apart from the Alexander McQueen sweetheart neckline under the V-neck lace that Kate wore at the wedding ceremony, the stunning bolero caught the attention of style-conscious brides who made lace an even more popular trend for 2011 brides.
Clare Mukherjee, a US-based fashion stylist and writer, has been sourcing long white dresses for years. But the emergence of the fluffy long-sleeved bolero trend after the royal wedding gave her a real headache as brides all over the world coveted the same outfit.
Writing on the Huffington Post, she shared: “At first glance, the bolero seemed rather unnecessary and extraneous. However, the more I examined the Duchess’ look, the more I grew to love and understand the purpose of the bolero.” She continued: “The angora knit brought a softness and true femininity to her look. It was also a practical move, England in April can be rather cold, and I’m sure the bolero allowed the duchess to relax and be comfortable, and what bride doesn’t want that on their wedding night?”
