In these tough financial times, everyday, working fashionistas are forced to adjust our lifestyles, using every clothing and accessory dollar as prudently as possible. Before we thought about money so carefully, we bought a new dress for every event – a new shoe for every dinner out. These days, we’re more likely to buy high quality pieces that will last for years and always look timeless. The idea of a “fashion investment” is rolling around all of our heads – and for good reason. Although these new money-saving mantras are our new mottos, we never expected our favorite stars to adopt the same lifestyles! But surprisingly enough, at last week’s Quentin Tarantino roast at New York City’s iconic Friar’s Club, kick-butt actress Uma Thurman showed up on the red carpet in the same winter coat we’ve seen for years. Take a look at her posh cover up, and sound off: frugal fashionista or tired trend?

Uma’s off-white colored, waffle-weave warmer is actually cute with its satin Peter Pan collar and cuffs, but all of those distinct features make it a bit difficult to style. Yes, the coat is timeless and in a neutral color – but we just don’t think it’s working for her with her tutu-like black evening dress attempting to break free from the bottom of the jacket. In fact, we bet that dress is pretty fabulous, but we can’t even see it with her coat covering it up! In past years, when Uma’s cream-colored coat has made an appearance, she’s gotten it all right, styling her apparent favorite winter jacket with slim-fitting pants and boots. That way, the accessory looks more modern and less grandma.
A statement winter coat is actually a great way to spice up an otherwise bland winter wardrobe jam-packed with dark moody colors – so we give Uma style points for not blending into a sea of black wool pea coats. Her mistake is not switching up her everyday jacket for a dressy one at night. A lot of women make this mistake – assuming they only need one coat to get them through winter. Avoid the Uma look by always having a warm, winter daytime coat that looks great with jeans, but also a great formal evening coat like a fitted black blazer that also looks great with your LBDs. What do you think of Uma’s look?
