Frieda Pinto in 2008 film "Slumdog Millionaire"

We adore actress Frieda Pinto, which is why we were delighted to read that Glamour Magazine recently named the Oscar-nominated star one of the young women to watch in Hollywood. Since her “Slumdog Millionaire” success back in 2008, we haven’t had many opportunities to see Freida on the big screen, so we’re looking forward to checking out some of the films she has coming down the pipeline for 2011. In the meantime, we’ll have to settle for scoping out Freida’s amazing fashions during her rare red carpet appearances. And at the star-studded opening of the brand new Nicholas Kirkwood flagship store in London on Thursday, May 12th, Ms. Pinto brought her style A-game. The L’Oreal spokeswoman opted for a fun and flirty “Thessa” dress by Peter Pilotto, a designer we don’t see a lot on the red carpet – with plenty of pretty patterns throughout the bodice and skirt. If you’re intimidated by bold prints, read on to discover the right way to wear them this summer.

Freida’s frock is a true wrap dress, which means that it actually wraps around her figure and needs to be secured with a belt. Wrap-style dresses are also favorites among celebrities, but those give the illusion and flattery of a wrap dress without the risk of falling open and revealing a star’s multiple layers of Spanx. There’s something so classic and old school about a true wrap, and we love this look on Freida. In another daring move, the star chose a bold pattern that included bright pops of orange, blue, yellow and violet. With her tawny skin tone, Freida looks amazing in a rainbow of colors, and the swath of ivory fabric balances out the colors. Freida completed her look with orange peep toes by (who else?) Nicholas Kirkwood, and a simple red leather belt.

Don’t be afraid of color this season. Take a page out of Freida’s book and look for unexpected pieces that incorporate a range of flattering tones. If you’re warm, look for oranges and yellows, like the actress did here. Cooler girls should look for bolts of aquamarine and purple. If you’re feeling shy, start with a bold color shoe, like Freida’s, to ease into the trend.
