When it comes to fashion and beauty, sometimes the simplest silhouettes and color palates can make the most powerful impression. Jaded fashionistas are so used to gawking at high-concept shapes and three-dimensional details, that sensory overload eventually leaves us yearning for a simple little black dress, or unadorned bandage-style strapless frock. Thankfully, resident guidance counselor on FOX’s smash hit Glee, Jayma Mays, arrived at the Fox Upfront Event at New York City’s Wollman Rink recently in a perfectly pretty strapless party dress. The silhouette was simple and made a big statement, but Jayma also punched her look up a few notches with a surprising detail. The good news is that you can DIY your own version of the pretty redhead’s fun and flirty fashion.

Jayma’s shimmery frock appears to be a mix of orange, pink, lavender and silver stripes, but together they create the illusion of a soft, neutral pastel. The flatteringly ambiguous hue is perfect for the actress’s porcelain complexion. If you’re fair like Jayma, steer clear of garish brights or neons this summer, and opt for softer shades like this one for a more flattering look. In addition to the adorable color, we’re dying over the super simple cut. The strapless neckline allows Jayma’s gorgeous face to shine without distraction, and there’s just enough structuring throughout the bust and bodice to prevent the shape from becoming boxy.

We also love how the Glee star accessorized her simplistic look. She opted for classic pointy pumps in a soft baby pink, and a vibrant fuchsia hard-case clutch. The juxtaposition of the neutral and neon pinks are her outfit’s perfect compliment, but we love her neon orange manicure even more. A DIY mani will save you tons of cash and is surprisingly easy. Soak and shape tips before swiping them with acetone to rid your nail beds of any trace oils. Follow with a good quality base coat, two to three coats of color, and a nice thick swipe of super shiny topcoat, for a Glee-approved manicure at home!
