For shopaholics, the old adage, “everything old is new again” is more than just a figure of speech. In fact, it’s a style and a way of life. Diehard fashionistas know that trends never truly die – and that no matter how outrageous or seemingly wacky, fads always come back around. There’s no such thing as a fashion pipeline – it’s more like a fashion circle, where certain looks seem to come back into mainstream consciousness like clockwork.
But even though we are always prepared and excited for seemingly tired fads to come back around, we have to admit we were a little shocked to see a few questionable 1980s staples come back in vogue. We didn’t think we’d ever see the day when black and neon pink graffiti print, or chain link tees would be fashionable. But when fashion queen Heidi Klum arrived at the February 1st red carpet kick off event for Diet Coke’s Heart Truth campaign in honor of American Heart Month, donning those exact trends, we knew that the’80s were officially here to stay.

As intimidating as each of Heidi’s individual pieces look here, they are actually effortless to style and incorporate into your wardrobe. If you’re feeling timid and anxious about so many trends at the same time, it’s simple to break up Heidi’s fierce fashions and wear them separately. For starters, her hot pink and black Suno blazer looks fresh with her ensemble, but it might work better with a simple black dress – or black leggings and a simple cami, if you’re a fashion beginner.
Heidi’s chain link tee is so casual and cute, anyone can pull it off. In fact, we think it would look equally stunning with skinny jeans and flip-flops as it would with dressy trousers and a blazer. And of course, with a bedazzled tee, there’s no pressure to pile on jewelry and accessories – they’re already built-in!
Heidi’s choice to style her outfit with sexy sky-high Jimmy Choo boots was fashion perfection in our opinion. But you don’t have to be so bold with your own style choices. Remember to tread lightly through ’80s trends at first, until you learn to style your loudest pieces. Once you’re ready, feel free to dress all-out “Material Girl” and look as hot as Heidi!
