You know we love bold color around here. We’re constantly encouraging our fellow fashionistas to try new star styles and trends – and that includes the latest “it” colors. For Spring 2011, shades of orange are popping up everywhere – from the palest peach to the deepest rust – and we absolutely adore the daring hue. It’s true that color can change your mood instantly – and that certain shades work best on different skin tones. But as much as we love a splash of bright red, orange or pink – there’s always something about basic black that we adore just as much. It’s always flattering and appropriate – and looks equally sharp on every skin tone. Black’s only pitfall is that it has a tendency to feel redundant and boring on the red carpet. After all, there’s only so many different ways to style and accessorize a little black dress before the look gets tired.
But on Tuesday, February 8th, at the New York City premiere of her newest comedy, “Just Go With It,” Jennifer Aniston — who happens to be infamous for stubbornly sticking to basic black for events – managed to completely reinvent the black gown. And believe it or not, her Dolce & Gabbana creation had a breezy and tropical vibe. Read on for event photos, and learn how to reinvent the basic black items in your own wardrobe.

No one was surprised when Jen stepped onto the NYC red carpet in a floor-length strapless frock. We are so used to seeing her in the moody hue, that we had to do a double take before we realized the gown’s easy, summery feel. The D&G design was actually crafted from a sheer silk-chiffon material, which let Jen’s amazing legs peek through when she walked. The gown’s bodice was constructed with zigzagging swaths of the same fabric, creating a casual lattice look. In fact, if this gown had been white or pastel, it would have been perfect for the beach!
The trick to making your basic black feel summery chic is to choose light, casual fabrics. Remember that black is a year-round wardrobe staple, as long as you keep things lightweight when the mercury rises.
