Mariska Hargitay in Carolina Herrera Spring 2011

We’re so accustomed to seeing Mariska Hargitay kick major criminal butt on NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU” that we barely recognized her at the Museum of the Moving Image Salute to Alec Baldwin gala on Monday, February 28th. The bash, held at the famed Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City, paid tribute to Baldwin’s accomplishments in comedic acting and charitable causes – and the NBC stars came out in droves. Fortunately for us, the super formal affair called for major fashion, and it was fun to see our favorite funny (Tina Fey) and dramatic (Richard Gere) stars dress to the nines for the event. Not to mention, after veritable Oscar overload, it’s a refreshing change to see our favorite celebrities switch gears for a night out in NYC. And of all the fabulous style at the Salute, our hands-down favorite was Mariska. Keep reading for event photos, and discover how to steal a little Herrera style for your own wardrobe!

For the big night, the “SVU” star opted for a Carolina Herrera Spring 2011 gown, and left the design completely unaltered for her arrival. The white frock featured prominent geographic black and gray flowers and a structured black bow detail at the waist. The deep V-neck and column silhouette are absolute perfection on Mariska’s flawless figure, and we’re thinking of stealing a similar style for our next night on the town!

The dress’s intricate design calls for little in the way of accessories, and Mariska nailed her look from head to toe, opting only for simple diamond earrings, a silver bracelet and a sleek black clutch. Her understated hair, makeup and accessories allow her designer gown to take center stage, without overshadowing any of the beautiful creation.

Prints are a huge spring trend, and if you’re interested in trying a similar look, it’s important to keep the rest of your ensemble clean and simple, like Mariska did here – especially if you’re opting for a full-length print, like this Herrera frock. We adore this look, and encourage you to try a similar one as the weather warms up!
