Michelle Monaghan is relatively new to the silver screen, but after her big break in this month’s psychological thriller, Source Code, where she stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal – we’re willing to bet that everyone from movie critics to fashion editors will know her name. We’ve seen previews for the film, and can’t wait to check it out when it hits theatres April 15th, but until then, Michelle is doing her best to keep us on our toes with her fierce fashion picks while she travels to promote her new movie. Most recently, we spotted her at a New York City “Source Code” screening in a bright turquoise Roksanda Ilincic frock and black strappy Chrissie Morris stiletto sandals that left us green with shoe envy. Check out her asymmetrical look below, and tell us if you’re as smitten as we are!
Even though the color experts at Pantone recently declared the punchy pink “Honeysuckle” 2011’s shade of the year, we haven’t forgotten that their top pick for 2010 was the near-neon “Turquoise.” And just because it didn’t make the cut for a second year, doesn’t mean the aqua hue isn’t still just as stylish. In fact, we’ve seen shades from the deepest, jewel-toned teals to the palest marine blues grace the red carpet this year, and Michelle looked amazing in her asymmetrical, ruffled version of the color. Certainly, this particular Ilincic frock is not easy to wear, but we’re loving Michelle’s take on the dress. She has the right attitude (not to mention the right shoes) to totally nail this tricky look, and we’re even considering a lopsided look of our own.
The reason why Michelle looks stylish and not garish is because she opted for simple, pretty hair and makeup – and minimal accessories. Her sleek blowout and moody, blunt bangs exude the perfect amount of “bad gal” attitude to pull off her tough dress and heels. Remember to balance out a bold detail like a neon hue or giant ruffle with simple finishing touches.
