Michelle Obama’s Inaugural Attire By Isabel Toledo

So we’ve uncovered which designer was responsible of First Lady Michelle Obama’s gorgeous sunny yellow dress and coat.  The designer’s name is Isabel Toledo, a Cuban-American designer who attended Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons school of design in New York.  Ms. Toledo has been known as one of New York’s prominent designers for more than 20 years.  Her collection is available at Barneys New York.

Before the inauguration day, Michelle Obama had worn Toledo’s creation to the Calvin Klein fund raiser in New York back in June 2008.  Toledo did not design specially for Michelle Obama, therefore she was quite surprised when she heard that one of her designs was purchased by such a high profile woman.  Turns out that Michelle Obama bought Isabel Toledo’s design at Ikram, a store in Chicago.  That time Toledo was utterly flattered and said:

“She could’ve worn anybody, but she chose to wear a dress made by a Latina, and made in the U.S. So she chose to support the industry here.”

Sounds like our First Lady is really helping her husband tackling down the economy while still managing to look great!  Now we know why we really love her.
