If anyone knows how to create the perfect ponytail, it’s former tennis star (and ex-girlfriend of Enrique Iglesias) Anna Kournikova. After all, she spent the majority of her career sweating it out on a tennis court, all with her bouncy blonde locks firmly in place. Since she retired from her sport, we haven’t seen much of her on the red carpet – and we’ve surely missed her amazing fashion and beauty picks. But her ensemble was so gorgeous at the recent BAFTA Brits to Watch Event, which took place in Los Angeles on Saturday, July 9th, that we think it was well worth waiting out her red carpet hiatus. The fit and fierce beauty chose a drool-worthy Tadashi Shoji gown that featured a gathered waist and cascading ruffles, in an amazing shade of teal-green. We’re completely smitten with her entire look, right down to her voluminous ponytail, so read below to discover her pro secrets to nailing a similar look.
Shades of green from pale mint to deep emerald have been huge for several seasons – and it doesn’t look like the trend is disappearing any time soon. In fact, we think green is becoming a new neutral, since there’s so many gorgeous shades on the color wheel. It’s simple to find your perfect green, so experiment with different hues in the fitting room to discover which shade works best for you.
In Anna’s case, this rich teal shade is the perfect compliment to her tan skin and blonde locks. Silver platform sandals and a hot red pedicure shade were the only accessories the beautiful color called for – and Anna was careful not to overdo it.
As much as we love her gown, it’s her amazing, red carpet-worthy ponytail that has us talking. For a similar look, spritz salt spray throughout damp locks to create plenty of rough texture. After blow-drying with a diffuser, tease hair at the crown and hike the length up into an I Dream of Genie-style high pony. Finish the look with plenty of texturizing hairspray, and add simple stud earrings to show off your pretty décolletage and face for a style that will hold all night.
