Creating something new is easy. Maintaining a legacy is another thing. The legendary fashion house, Halston, is about to pass the fashion torch to a fashion icon, Sarah Jessica Parker. The “Sex and The City” actress has inked a deal with Halston for a big job -she is rumored to take the role of Creative Director- for the company’s newly-launched second line, Halston Heritage. WWD reported that the collection “features updated archival Halston pieces at contemporary price points”.

Just a 411 to the now generation, Roy Halston, founder of the Halston fashion house, designed the iconic pillbox hat worn by Jacqueline Kennedy on JFK’s inauguration in 1961.

The deal is recently confirmed although not much details was revealed, but word is, it will be launched prior to the Sex and the City movie premiere in May, 2010. This move is apparently creating a buzz and speculations in the fashion industry, as it’s viewed as desperate to have a Hollywood ‘assistance’ to up a fashion house that’s struggling to keep its legacy. Some fashion publications even took a retrospect on Lindsay Lohan’s failed attempt to ‘help’ Ungaro last year and made comparisons to SJP’s partnership with Halston. The fashion world also highlighted Sarah Jessica’s fashion line, Bitten, which had to close shop not too long ago due to the recession.

We think Hollywood and the fashion world is just like mixing business with familiy. You’re thankful you have them to support you and vice versa, but getting into business with them always raises questions, public speculations and the expectations to fail. A bit unfair, but we guess it’s how it goes almost all the time.

Now, although she’s a powerhouse in the fragrance industry, do you think SJP is going to pull this Halston deal off?
