We took one look at Selena Gomez leaving the Ed Sullivan Theatre, in New York City on March 14th, after a visit with late night funnyman David Letterman, and stopped questioning what teen heartthrob Justin Bieber sees in her. She looked absolutely stunning in an Emilio Pucci party dress, and it’s no surprise that her adorable style and sweet personality has Justin hooked.
In true Pucci style, there’s a lot going on with this look – including several different patterns and fabrics on the dress itself. Normally, we advise against pattern overload, but Selena is only 18 and can easily pull off looks that most of us wouldn’t dare to wear.
The singer/actress/girlfriend of The Biebs was on set to promote her new song, “Who Says,” from her upcoming third studio album, and managed to look totally chic in an eclectic mash-up of lace, leather, and chain embellishments with an abstract mini skirt. Lace burst back onto the fashion scene a few seasons ago, and shows no signs of retreating any time soon. We saw lace details everywhere on the Spring and Summer 2011 runways, and we think Selena’s demure take on the trend is a great way to ease into the look. Shop around for similar silhouettes, like long-sleeved lace blouses, to test the trend in your own wardrobe.
The leather bodice and heavily embellished waistline work on Selena because she’s super petite. The heavy metal detailing also pays homage to the Disney princess’s rock star roots – and we think it’s a perfectly age appropriate look for her Letterman appearance.
If you love similar details – it’s easy to mix and match like Selena. Just remember to maintain a cohesive, neutral color palate throughout your whole ensemble.
