Vanessa Hudgens in Julien Macdonald

We’ve always loved Vanessa Hudgens’ whimsical sense of style. The “High School Musical” star is only 22 years old, but her grasp on design, fashion and beauty has always been mature and sophisticated. Because she’s still young, she has the fashion freedom to wear bolder colors, sexier cuts and even daring prints on the red carpet, and often takes full advantage of the hottest trends. And after her recent stint as a front-row regular at this month’s Fall/Winter 2011 New York Fashion Week, we’re not surprised to see her take a big style risk. At the recent premiere of her latest teen flick, “Beastly,” in Los Angeles, Vanessa certainly didn’t hold back – and her bold fashion statement paid off. The star chose an asymmetrical, floral-patterned Julien Macdonald frock, and worked the otherwise tricky look to perfection. We love a star who’s unafraid to wear pattern on the red carpet, so take a look below, and let us know if you agree!

Vanessa’s dress here certainly isn’t for everyone. In fact, we know plenty of Hollywood starlets who might fall flat in a similar look. But between her flawless hair and makeup, and her confidence, we think Vanessa made a great fashion choice. Fortunately for her fashionista fans, similar looks will be in stores everywhere come spring. Florals come back into fashion every year, but Vanessa’s 2011 twist on the trend provides plenty of style inspiration, for any budget. When shopping, look for more delicate and subtle floral patterns that have a “water color” feel to them. Notice how Vanessa’s dress almost looks like a wash of pinks and purples, rather than bold and defined flowers. Similar styles are everywhere from Kohl’s to Barney’s, so a perfect print shouldn’t be hard to find.

We love that Vanessa chose a bold red clutch to make a statement, rather than more neutral accessories. She kept her hair and makeup pretty and natural to balance her daring strapless dress, and looked great from head-to-toe. Take a cue from Vanessa next time you wear a print, and keep the rest of your ensemble simple to stay in star style!
