If you’re anything like us, you probably anticipate Oscar night like the men in our lives anticipate the Super Bowl. It’s the one night of the year when every A-list star descends on the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles to celebrate their peers, normally dripping in designer diamonds and fabulous fashion. The entire Hollywood awards season culminates with the Academy Awards – and it’s the stars last chance of the season to make a big fashion impression.
We look forward to Oscar night every year, and often keep our eyes peeled for the heaviest hitters. This year, some of our favorite timeless stars, like Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock all looked gorgeous for the big event. But even though the “regulars” did not disappoint, our jaws dropped when we saw relative newcomer Jennifer Lawrence grace the red carpet. At first, we admit we weren’t sure who she was, or if she was even nominated for a statue, but we’re certain her name will be on everyone’s lips after her style statement at the Oscars. For her first Oscar’s appearance, Jennifer opted for a simple and sleek body-hugging Calvin Klein dress. And even though she wore minimal makeup and accessories, she wowed us with her minimalist approach to fashion. The red-hot dress was perfection on the young blonde, who earned her Best Actress nod for “Winter’s Bone,” and is a great example of how sometimes, less really is more on the red carpet.
Too often, young actresses try to convey sophistication and maturity through overly embellished frocks, but we love that Jennifer dressed appropriately for her age, and for the occasion. The next time you’re shopping for a big event, take a cue from this Hollywood newcomer and remember that the simplest looks can be the chicest!
