Indie film darling Chloe Sevigny arrived at the HBO’s Girls series premiere in a dress by Opening Ceremony. According to the HBO site Girls takes “a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20’s”. The cast is comprised of relatively unknown actresses and premieres April 15th.
I love that Ms. Sevigny takes risks because sometimes it pays off, it’s too bad that this gamble wasn’t a winner. I really want to like the dress because I love prints, but it’s so busy my eyes don’t know where to go – and that HBO backdrop isn’t helping. The busy blue, black, and yellow dress was a mirrored print that reminds me of those Rorschach tests. I just know there’s a subliminal message in there somewhere.
I’m also disappointed by her hair and makeup. I know with a dress that busy you can’t go overboard make-up wise, but her hair is kind of distracting. I wish the dress itself fit her better too – the lumps and bumps are just not flattering.
I respect the Big Love star as an actress and I’m always rooting for her. I think it’s because I associate her with my fond memories of the now-defunct magazine Sassy when she was an effervescent model who suddenly skyrocketed to a huge “it girl”.
Here’s some Sassy pictures of her in quintessential 90’s gear:
