Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen started out with a tween empire worth $1 billion. Now they’re setting their sights on the grownup world, starting with their first love for fashion.

The Olsen twins have created a fashion jewelry collection through Robert Lee Morris under the brand Elizabeth and James.
“We’ve always done our own thing and sometimes people appreciate it or they don’t, or it’s shocking or it’s not,” said Ashley, who the night before being interviewed appeared in New York at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Fashion Awards draped in an oversize black Calvin Klein Collection suit. “We don’t follow the trends of other people. We’ve never had stylists, we do our own thing. So when you find individuals like that, especially in the fashion industry, people pay attention. Whether they agree with it or not is a different story.”
“We both have a love for accessories and they’ve always been important to us from Day One,” Mary-Kate said. “They can help make an outfit or make you feel different. Maybe a ring brings you good luck, or you got it as a present and it means so much to you. It’s a feeling that you get when you put on something that is special.”
Hitting stores in September, Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James consists of 80-plus styles, including thick metal cuffs and rings, earrings and necklaces accented with turquoise beading, crosses and daggers. The collection is meant to be mixed and matched and retails from $65 to $700.
“We liked the idea of having playful elements along with timeless and ageless pieces,” Ashley said. “The symbols are attachable and you can take the jewelry and make it your own. There are solid silver and gold pieces to wear forever and comfort pieces that you’ll put on and wear everywhere.”
The Olsen twins have been super successful marketing to little girls into dolls… nowadays they’re known for celebrity drama and kooky getups. Do you think they’ll be able to sell grownups on a jewelry line?
English model Agyness Dean is the bold face of a new fragrance by designer Jean Paul Gaultier named “Ma Dame” set to launch later August 16, 2008 exclusively in three major cities. Galeries Lafayette, Paris, and Sephora’s Champs-Elysées store, Harrods, London and Lane Crawford, Hong Kong, followed by a global roll-out later this year in September.
The commercial starts with Agyness Dean walking towards the camera in natural model form, but out of her natural appearance with long hair and a funky business suit. She then proceeds to cut her hair and rips the sleeves from the under shirt and cut her pants down to shorts and revealing the real more edgier Agyness Dean that she is known for. (Video Coming Later)
Agyness was recently dropped as the face of Fall 2008 Burberry campaigns. Great way to bounce back and silence all the critics.
Jean Paul Gaultier hasn’t released a women’s fragrance since the launch of Fragile in 1999 he said the following about why he chose Agyness Dean:
“She was ballerina and biker, so feminine and masculine,” said Gaultier. “It was a mix of my sensibility, and I knew she was completely the one to represent it. “It’s my type of woman—at the same time fragile and strong, like a tomboy that is a little androgynous in attitude so, you know, she can cut her hair if she wants.”
Remember earlier last month we spoke on the future launch of Lindsay Lohan’s leggings line, which is currently in development and more is unfolding week after week.
WWD reports that the line was revealed to retailers last week at the Los Angeles Fashion Market and the collection so far includes footless tights cut out of Supima cotton Modal ribbed knits and other fabrics decorated with foil prints, yarn dyes and screen prints.
Reports from WWD said the following:
“wholesaling from $20 to $75, the line has already been picked up by retailers such as Hillary Rush, Fred Segal and RevolveClothing.com“
These leggings are looking to be very expensive (hence the premium in the title) at retail anywhere from $45-$160 according to the wholesale prices above.
Who is willing to pay over $100 for a pair of Lyndsay’s 6126 leggings?
At one time Jessica Simpson was having problems promoting the one clothing line she had at the time, but she will be adding more to the mix come Spring 2009. With the launch of a intimate apparel line through The Camuto Group a leading design, development and distributor of women’s fashion.
The intimate apparel initial line up will include underwear, bras, daywear and sleepwear. Jessica recently told WWD the following:
“The biggest problem when wearing lingerie is panty lines. “That is why I am including, in my collection, a stylish assortment of shapewear that women will love”
Jessica Simpson also has a fragrance coming out in August and a line of belts launching in early Fall 2008.
Are there any fans of Jessica Simpson’s clothing line?
