The only thing better than A-list celebrities walking the red carpet in the latest and greatest fashion, jewelry and accessories is when they do it for a good cause. And on Tuesday, June 7, that’s exactly what plenty of our favorite fashionable stars did at the annual Samsung Hope for Children Gala, held at New York City’s glamorous Cipriani Wall Street. This year, the event raised over $1.4 million for children’s charities – and the stars really pulled out all their style stops for the evening. In fact, we loved so many of the night’s looks, we’d be hard pressed to choose a favorite. But if we absolutely had to pick a noteworthy dress, it would be Jennifer Lopez’s red-hot Temperley London frock.
In a sea of black dresses and suits at the formal gala, J. Lo’s red gown totally popped on the carpet. We give her major style points for going the red route, because it’s often a forgotten color this time of year. Red pops up everywhere come fall and winter, but fashionistas often forget how fresh crimson can be when the mercury rises. The great thing about J. Lo’s dress is that a similar shade would be universally flattering on a wide range of skin tones. Unlike most hues, bright-red lipstick can add a bright punch of color to anyone’s wardrobe, and still look classic.
In true J. Lo fashion, her Temperley frock had an amazing shape and fit. In case we needed more proof that the 41-year-old mother of twins still has a fierce figure, her gala appearance hammered the point home. If you’re interested in trying a similar shape, look for dresses that have plenty of stretch that will move with you and flatter your curves, rather than a super structured shape.
J. Lo finished her look to perfection with nude peep toe heels, a nude evening bag and a simple, but statement-making diamond cocktail ring. If you plan on rocking red this summer, be sure to let the bright hue take center stage – like Jennifer – by keeping hair and accessories neutral and understated.
