Owner of “TapouT”, Charles “Mask” Lewis, died early Wednesday, in a tragic car crash.  His Ferrari crashed into a light pole in Newport Beach, and the impact tore the vehicle in half.  According to recent news, his sports car was traveling alongside a Porsche before the crash, and according to the police, the Porsche’s driver, Jeffrey David Kirby, 51 years old, remained in custody in lieu of $2 million bail.  Kirby is being held on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.
LATimes reports, Kirby was taken into custody on Wednesday by Newport Beach police after he left the scene of the accident on Jamboree Road, where Mask’s Ferrari crashed into the pole.  A female passenger riding with him was hurled into the street.  The woman’s name has not been released. Porsche owner, Kirby, has been cited in Orange County for at least eight traffic violations since 2001, including a conviction for drunk driving and was sentenced to three years’ probation.
Mask founded TapouT clothing with Dan “Punkass” Caldwell in 1997, where they sell t-shirts at the back of their cars at mixed martial art shows.  Along with the success of the sport, more fighters and fans wear TapouT, and the line became the exclusive apparel on the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s reality series on Spike TV, “The Ultimate Fighter”.
